(Cupventi.com) – Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have come forward to address the recent news regarding their separation. Following Joe’s filing for divorce from Sophie, the couple issued a joint statement via their respective Instagram accounts on September 6th.
In their shared message, they openly acknowledged their decision to amicably end their four-year marriage, emphasizing that it was a mutual choice. They acknowledged the numerous speculations surrounding their breakup but stressed that this decision was united and expressed their earnest hope for privacy for themselves and their children.
The couple, who are parents to daughters Willa and a 14-month-old baby girl known as “D.J.” in court documents, originally tied the knot in 2019 with a prenuptial agreement in place, as revealed in Joe’s court filing obtained by E! News.
Looking ahead, Joe Jonas expressed his desire to focus on co-parenting with Sophie Turner, suggesting the establishment of a parenting plan that addresses all parental matters and outlines a schedule for frequent and continuous contact with both parents.
He mentioned that their daughters had been residing with him in various U.S. cities during his tour and asserted that shared parental responsibility would be in the best interest of the children. Additionally, he emphasized that both he and Sophie were capable of providing for their kids and should contribute to their support.
While E! News has reached out to their representatives for comment on the divorce, there has been no response as of yet. The couple’s love story began when Joe, now 34, initiated contact with Sophie, now 27, by sending her a direct message on Instagram approximately seven years ago.
Recalling their initial interaction, Sophie explained that they were already following each other on Instagram when Joe unexpectedly messaged her. Despite her initial disinterest in the Jonas Brothers, she eventually agreed to a first date with him at a London bar with friends. Sophie was pleasantly surprised by Joe’s down-to-earth demeanor, as she had expected him to arrive with security and a big entourage.
Their first date was marked by genuine, engaging conversation, and they quickly became inseparable. They made their public debut as a couple at the MTV EMAs in November 2016, got engaged within a year, and spontaneously got married in Las Vegas just two hours after the 2019 Billboard Music Awards.
