(Cupventi.com) – Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who recently suspended his third-party presidential bid and endorsed former President Donald Trump, has lost his Secret Service protection following his decision to exit the race. This development was confirmed by Kennedy’s campaign.
“Mr. Kennedy no longer has USSS,” said Stefanie Spear, Kennedy’s press secretary, in a statement to CBS News.
During a speech in Phoenix on Friday, Kennedy announced his support for Trump, explaining that he saw no viable path to the White House. While Kennedy stated he wasn’t completely “terminating” his campaign—he remains on the ballot in some noncompetitive states—he committed to withdrawing from states where his presence could act as a spoiler. Before suspending his campaign, Kennedy was on the ballot in over 20 states.
Kennedy received Secret Service protection at the direction of President Biden after an assassination attempt on Trump in July. The protection was a significant concern for Kennedy, whose father, Robert F. Kennedy, and uncle, President John F. Kennedy, were both assassinated in the 1960s. By law, the Secret Service is required to protect major presidential candidates and their spouses within 120 days of a general election, though other candidates can be granted protection as needed.
